Zakynthos Excursions: Discover the many excursions proposed in Zakynthos
Zakynthos is the
eleventh largest island in Greece and has many to offer in terms of
excursions. This is not the list with all the Zakynthos excursions
but just the most popular ones.
- The
Navagio beach (Shipwreck):
It is the most famous of Zakynthos excursions. It is a beach where
a ship that transported illegally cigarettes washed up.
The ruins of the ship are still there on a beautiful white sandy
beach with crystal waters, in the middle of impressive vertical
rocky cliffs. The beach is one of the island’s trademarks and is
only accessible by boat.
- The Marathonissi
islet:
It is a small desert islet with rich vegetation situated in front
of the coast of Limni Keriou.
The islet has a beautiful white sandy beach with crystal waters
which unfolds in sea. The islet is part of the National Marine Park.
-The
beaches of the area of Vassilikos:
Vassilikos is situated in the southeast of the island and has several
beautiful beaches to offer to the visitors such as Porto Zoro, Banana
Beach, Agios Nikolaos, Porto Roma and Gerakas. Gerakas must be the
most beautiful beach of the area. It is an area subject to the national
and international legislation in order to protect the sea turtle
Caretta-Caretta and for that reason the beach is empty of tourist
facilities. It is a long beach which kept all its natural beauty.
The bay is characterised by an impressive rock formation.
- The
Church of Agia Mavra:
It is a 14th century church situated in the village of Maherado.
It is a beautiful church that houses the icon of Agia Mavra which
is considered as miraculous.
The icon is surrounded by many offerings from believers and among
them, the visitor can see the valuable jewel offered by the Queen
Olga.
